Animals Watching

April 2015

Not sure when Mom made this quilt top.  I think the pattern was Puppy Dog Tales in Quilter's World April 2007 but may have mix up notes on this quilt.  I backed in a tan minky.  It has a 80/20 batt.  I want to call it Eyes Are Upon You, but I'm afraid that is a bit creepy for a kids quilt.

Quilt Guild Medallion Round 4 -- #2

March - April 2015

This medallion did not have anyone signed up for round 4.  I had completed my round 4 and turned it in early and decided to take another one in the remaining two months.  I selected this one because I rarely do seasonal quilts but have purchased seasonal fabrics.

In my stash I had a fabric with jack-o-lantern faces and wanted to somehow use this fabric.  I decided to use it in a pumpkin block.  I couldn't find a pumpkin block that would work so I took two paper pieced pumpkin blocks and created my own with a center section that would accommodate the jack-o-lantern face.  I made about 20 of these blocks but then got board and didn't like that many pumpkins in a row.  I decided to interject with part of the border fabric that is the silhouette of building and graveyard.  Also in my stash was a spider and spider web fabric on orange which was perfect as corner stones.

Here is the finish Round 4 of the medallion:

Spot On

Jan 2015

I want to do some hand dying of fabrics.  So when I saw this pattern, Spot On by Pat Harrison in the Quiltmaker Mar/Apr 2014 magazine it seemed like the perfect project.  We had bought about 10 yards of a white on white at M&L Fabrics.  I used the book "Dyeing in Plastic Bags" by Helen Beighan to dye the fabric.  Overall I am pleased with the results.  However the white on white print kept the fabric from getting dark enough for the fabric in the border so I used the wrong side of the fabric.

Baby animal critters

March 2015

Mom made this quilt top within the last six months.  It was the fabric manufacturer's pattern.  I don't recall how long ago it was purchased or where.  I backed in a mottled tan/brown polar fleece.  I did not use any batting as I like how soft and the drape when no batting is used.  I quilted a wood grain motif in the 3 pieced columns.  I quilted the tree and leaves in the two tree panels.  I did "bubbles" in the border.

Practicing Hooked on Feathers

March 2015

Mom made this quilt top many years ago, but I'm not sure when.  I think it was a kit that she got at PIQF.  I wanted to practice different Hooked on Feather by Sally Terry so quilted a different one in each of the color bands.  By the time I was done I'm feeling comfortable with the technique.

Sold to Sue P (Calif Sue).
