Quilt Guild Medallion Round 2

Nov 2014

I was not available to attend the Moonlight Quilts of Sonoma County guild meeting in October when members were allowed to sign up for the medallions for the year.  I got my good friend Joanne to sign me up and she did a fabulous job.  I so love bright colors and a full spectrum of the rainbow.

I wanted to continue the colors to round 2.  I used scraps and Border Option #7 in the book 60 Pieced Quilts Borders.  I am pleased with the results. Can't wait to see what everyone else does.

Serendipty

June 2015.

I got this kit from the quilt store in Castle Rock Washington on our second trip (Mom and my road trip to San Juan Islands for a possible family reunion).  The fabric is gradation and really does make this quilt top. The pattern is Serendipity by Karen Combs. I wanted to do something simple and quick but interesting.  I started it in May.  Size: 48 x 48

Pirates

April 2015

Mom got this as a kit at a store while we were at Road to California this past January.  The pattern is Charming Baby Log Cabin by Afternoon Delights (41x59).  Mom completed top April 2015

Life is like a box of chocolates

March 2015.  I bought the pattern and fabric packet at the Road to California show this past January.  The fabric is of chocolates and the pattern reminded me of a Whitman chocolate box assortment.  I started and completed the quilt top while at Walker Creek retreat weekend.  I had purchased 2 yards of a fabric of mice carrying various chocolates.  Originally I was going to use it for the borders but the women of the retreat (and I agreed) that it just did not look right.  It deterred the look of Whitman chocolate box.  I think I may use it for part of the backing (not enough to be the complete backing).

Quilt Guild Medallion Round 5

May 2015.  This is round 5 of the medallion.  I felt it needed more white area for the eye to rest upon. I toyed with spelling out "nova" in Morse code but felt that would be too obscure.

I final settled on yet another border from the Log Cabin Borders and Corners book.  The patterns are paper pieced but I didn't feel that was necessary for this one so I did standard piecing technique.  I do think it worked out well.
