June - August 2015 quilting done
Mom bought the fabric for this quilt at the store in Teachape on our way to Palm Springs last October. She started and completed the top in 2015. We decided to make it longer so it could do a pillow fold over since we had the fabric. The pattern is Easy Trip Around the World by Jackie's Animas Quilts (Jackie Robinson).
I quilted it with Hooked on Feathers by Sally Terry using the large color areas as the diamond shapes to form the feathers spines (cream & blue). I am pleased with the outcome.

Colorful Cats
August 2015
I bought this fabric while at one of the Sisters OR show but several years ago. I pieced the top many years ago using the pattern Poppies by Pamela Mostek (freebie). It was one of many tops that has been waiting for me to quilt. It became the first quilt I quilted on the new quilt system mom and I purchased in July. I was still having a lot of issues with thread tension and there are some areas where the quilting is very looping and loose. The center is a very wide Matrix motif with no much interest and the boarder is Pipe Maze, both are Leah Day fillers. I'm okay with the results and it got me up to speed on the new system.

Hen House #1
August 14, 2015
My first Hen House event. My employer has a new policy and people can have their birthday (within 10 before or after) without having to take a PTO day so I took the day. Mom came on Thursday and we over packed for the day event. I worked on my paper piece stars (see other post) but did not get that far. Mom started a new project with is large butterflies that are framed and then shadow framed in bright colors. The idea came from something we saw at the Hersey show. Mom also worked on the animals in the tree small quilt kit. There was about 25 women there. It was fun. We left about 2:30 and we both were very tired. Not sure why we were so exhausted. Mom fell sound asleep while watching TV at 7.

Hersey PA Show July 2015
Mom and I stayed in a La Quinta near SFO on Tuesday 7/21. On Wednesday we were up early changed planes in Phoenix where Karen joined us then to Philly PA. We rented a car and drove the 1 1/2 hours to Hersey. Getting there about 8:30. We checked in and ate at one of the restaurant at the hotel. Next morning we went to the Quilt Odyssey show that is at the Hersey Inn.
It was a bit crowded but no worse then most shows. Great vendors. We stayed at the show most of the day and again ate at one of the restaurants at the hotel. That night drove into town and had dinner there then went to a grocery store for food for the mornings. On Friday we went to Chocolate World then drove to Lancaster and check out several stores there. Log Cabin Quilts 4 1/2 stars. Dutchland Quilts 4 1/2 stars. Lunch at Texas Roadhouse. Zooks Fabrics 4 stars. One other store that was good but don't remember name. The fabrics were reasonably priced. Only Log Cabin Quilts had any selection of kits. On Saturday we went to The Hersey story then to Burkholder Fabrics in Denver PA. WOW. A trailer outside where if you bought the whole bolt is was 3.99/yard. Two large aisle in back with by the yard 3.99/yard. Most fabrics were 9.49 yard (when at home we are paying 11 to 13 a yard). Lots of jelly rolls, layer cakes, notions and patterns. Then drove to Martins Fabric Barn in Lebonon PA. Again amazing. Every color way of Fossil Fern for 5.49/yard. Most fabrics 8 to 9 /yard. We were going to go to another store but basically out of space in our suitcases. Sunday we drove to Lancaster and visited Fran Myers. Monday & Tuesday we did sighting in Philly PA. A great trip.
