Owl in the Family

Mom made this quilt top.  It was kit that we got at PIQF last October.  I quilted the tree with wood motif and loved the effect.  I outlined the owls in the center panel and the flowers.  I did a few other motifs in the blocks on the side.  It was backed in orange minkie.

Size 41x59; SOLD to Brenda D August 2016

Walk on the Beach Mystery Quilt

I don't know how long ago I made this top.  If I'm remember correctly I bought it at the Huston Show.  It was a mystery quilt and I purchased it because I like the fabrics.  I quilted the center with zipple (Leah Day) in the tan fabric only.  I started with a variegated thread that matched the fabric.  However at many of the angle inflection points the bobbin thread color came through.  I spent a couple of hours trying to get that to stop.  Finally I pulled out the quilting and went to a variegated color thread that matched the bobbin.  I actually liked the how the quilting stood out, and when the bobbin thread pop through it was not noticeable.  I quilted the border with Sally Terry hooked on feathers.  I quilted this entire quilt on Easter Sunday.

East Bay Heritage Quilters - Show 2016

This was my first time at this show it is a beautiful venue, right on the bay at Richmond.  I went with Joanne and Dale.  Saw many others from MQSC.  They "sell" quilts in the show as well as from their "boutique".  I might want to consider to join the guild to sell more quilts.  They have a show only every other year.  I am not going to publish this post to all, since they requested that any picture taken be for personal use only and not to publish on any blogs or other electronic means.

I found these inspiring/interesting.

I liked this one.  Modern looking but different. Reminds me of a pattern I have.

I really like this one.  Made my heart pitter patter.  The largest of these squares was probably 5 or 6 inches.

This was a fun quilt it was people doing different summer type activities and other things like monopoly, music,  etc...  I just really like this scuba diver.

I liked this one just because of all the colors and use of scraps.  The small squares probably finish 1.5 inches.

Another very scrappy quilt.  Lots of half square triangles. I like the grouping of colors.

October Nights Stack-N-Whack

March 2016,

I made this quilt top so many years ago that I do not remember when.  It has been waiting to be quilted.  I quilted it with a stipple around each of the stars.  In the border I followed the printed motif a few times and in the corner stones did a decreasing square.  Selling at the Santa Rosa show in June.

2016 Tri Guil luncheon

March 12, 2016

Fun and oh so beautiful.  This year it was the Santa Rosa guild that hosted at the Scottish Rite Temple.  The theme was Fiesta and the block was based on Mexican Pray Flags, so colorful. These were my entries.

Gravity block of the Month

April 2015 --

My sister gave mom for Christmas the Gravity block of the Month by Jaybird Quilts.  She is also doing the BOM.  The monthly kits started in February but Mom waited until tax season was over and she came to the river to start the blocks.  The kits are 6 pieces of 10x10 solids in different tones of a color, and each month has 2 colors.

May 2015: After completing a couple of months it seems that there is enough scrap material to make an addition diamond of each color.  So I also started one.  Month 1 the scraps were enough to make my complete blocks.

June 2015:  I didn't make month 2 with the same colors because month 3 did not have enough left over fabric to make my blocks.  I could use month 2 scraps for month 3 if I had just a bit more of each ... so I asked my sister for her scraps.  She sent her scraps for months 1-4.  I made month 2 block with scrap of month 3 from mom scraps and had to use one color scrap from my sister due to a error in cutting.  I had to piece the large triangles as none of the scraps were large enough.

June 2015:  I made month 3 block with month 2 scraps.  Again I had to piece the large hexagons as none of the scraps were large enough but you can't tell.  I'm not too happy with the yellow block as the large hex and surrounding triangles are almost the exact same shade.  Up close you can see the difference but the photo shows how close.  I didn't like it when I did a different placement (before sewing together) up close but maybe I will unsew and reassemble when I put the block together if I still don't like it.

June 2015:  Month 4 was the same colors but I had to piece together the scraps of a specific color to make large enough using a scraps from my sister.  The seam line are a bit off but from a distance and in this photo you can't tell. I am really enjoying the challenge of making the scraps work for each of the blocks.

August 2015:  Month 5 was the same colors and the scraps were enough to get all the shapes just not in the specific colors but still looks good.

Month 6 was same colors with plenty of scraps but not necessarily the specific colors.

Dec 12, 2015

Got Month 7 & 9 completed.  Had to make month 9 with the scraps from month 8.

Walker Ranch Retreat March 2016

March 4, 5 & 6

Got to Walker Ranch in late afternoon on Friday, set up sewing machine and made bed.  Worked until about 10 pm and completed 4 braids on a batik French Braid quilt.

On Saturday I worked on Arcadia Avenue by Sassafras Lane Designs  paper piece and complete the 8th star.  It was a year ago at the retreat that I made the first star of this pattern.  Four more stars to go and at my present pace it will be Sept when I finish the last star.

Made two pin cushions for the guild to sell at the boutique.

Completed the Walker Ranch blocks which were a stack-n-slash.

Next I helped Bambi with one of her medallions.  We decided on what to do and I tried a few samples but couldn't get the points to work out.  So decided to sleep on it.

Up early on Sunday and using the Deluxe Corner Trimmer got the points to work out on the Medallion.  Finished the medallion and passed it on to the next person.  I then started work on the final 4 braids of the French Braid.  Packed up and left about 3pm.

UFO Pandas and Ginger Jars

Feb 26, 2016

Completed this quilt top.  Mom started it many years ago.  We have pulled it out several times and worked on it but put it away again and again.  It is based on the pattern Pagoda Bed Quilt by Georgie Gerl in Issue 8 (2007) of the magazine Asian Fabrics.  Therefore we probably started this quilt in 2007 ... only 9 years to get this far.  I was going to take on the retreat next week but it is so large and needed a design wall that I decide to just finish it.  Wonder how many years until I get it quilted?

Flannel Plaid and Herringbone

Feb 2016,

Mom made this quilt top a long time ago and it has been waiting for me to quilt it.  It is flannel. I quilted with outlining the churn-dash and large squares.  In the border I did a stipple.
