My first McKenna Ryan - Out & About

I have always like McKenna Ryan patterns and bought the first block of this series as a kit from the quilt shop in Sisters OR probably in the early 2000s.  I bought a second kit from the same place a couple of years later.  These kits were the bottom two fish blocks.  Then at some point I decided to get the rest of the patterns.  After visiting the McKenna Ryan store in OR in 2019 and bought more of her patterns I knew I had better start one of her quilts.  So I put it on my list of projects to start in 2020 at while at the retreat in Grass Valley I made the two blocks that I had kits for.

This is 3rd block I made.

The 4th block I made.

The 5th block.

The 6th block.

The 7th block.

I put on my 2021 UFO challenge list to make the rest of the blocks.

My 2022 UFO challenge list was to sew down the applique pieces.  I put batting behind each of the blocks when I did the applique edge securing.

The 2023 UFO challenge list was to put all blocks together into the quilt top.

To The Point - class with Tammy Silvers

 January 20, 2021

As part of Road to California show (this year it is virtual, called Road at Home, due to the pandemic), I took this class.

I like the improvisational aspect of the long skinny diamonds.  I got several of the diamonds done in class but didn't make any of the "sections" because I want the all the colors done to do the layout first.

Finished the quilt top.
