Medallion 2019-2020 Round 2

I had some great ideas on what I would do with this medallion when I signed up.  When I got it for round 2, none of my ideas would work.

So I decided to make a simple round so it had a calming space. I first put in the small multi strip to hold the bias edges.

Here it is completed.

Medallion 2019 -2020 Round 3 (#1)

I signed up for this one because it needed someone to to a round 3.  The colors are washed out in these photos.  It is much brighter.

I decided on this diamond border as I wanted to try it out.  I was almost complete when I read further in the book and realized that there were other sizes.  I think larger diamonds would have been better.  But I was not willing to redo.

Here it is completed.

Medallion 2019 -2020 Round 3 (#2)

I signed up for this one because it needed someone for round 3.  I really liked what had been done before me.

I struggled in figuring out what to do.  I decided on tis as I've done it before many times and it has amazing results.  However I'm not happy with this, it is just okay.

Here is it completed.

Medallion 2019 - 2020 Round 4

The person that had signed up for this one got into a car accident and broke her arm so I took it on.

I felt it need some white space to calm it down but I also wanted to continue the diamond theme. This was also the last round done

Medallion starts and finishes 2019 - 2020

This was a Row by Row from the year of water theme.  I got a kit from a store in Phoenix and it made two with a lot of scraps.  I made and sold the other one.

Here is how it finished in Oct 2020.  Great concept in making 4 seasonal panels.

I made a quilt with the barn blocks and had a lot of farm animal fabric left over so I thought it would be a good medallion start.

This is how it finished.  So cute.

2020 UFO Challenge

Using the allpeoplequilt.com/resolution form for UFO Challenge several of my friends modified the challenge.

Participants: Myself, Dena, Carole, Karla, Nancy, Katie, Joanne, Dale, Cindy and Karin (who joined late and is back east caring for her parents and does not have all the projects with her which became an issue with the pandemic)

To provide more motivation we modified what we want to do.

1. Each participant puts $20 in at the beginning of the year (Carole is holding the money).  We call this the buy-in.
2. Make the list of 12 UFO projects, stating what the status of the project is now and what you want to have accomplished by the end of the month of working on it (this is similar to MQSC VP UFO challenge).
3. On the first of each month I will determine the number of the project to work on.  We started the year by selecting two months so people can work ahead it they choose.
4. On the last day of the month if you have not achieved the stated status (on the list sheet) then you have to pay a $5 penalty to the "kitty".
5. You can work on any of the 12 UFO projects listed anytime (not just the specified month) to work ahead or catch-up on your list.
6. At the end of the year if you complete your list your buy-in $20 is returned.
7. Anyone who does not complete their list has their buy-in added to the "kitty".  The "kitty" money is divided by all those who do complete their list.

My list is:
#1:  Monster Market Mini BQ:  As of 1/1/20 a few blocks are done:  Challenge: Finish quilt top

Sew-in-place during pandemic

Bonnie Hunter created a sew-in-place a few weeks into the pandemic shut down.  Several people in the guild love Bonnie Hunter patterns and I have lots and lots of scraps so I decided to join in.  This is the "center".
This is after week two.
I started week three and just couldn't continue.  It was too many of the exactly the same thing and nothing I wanted to spend my time on.  I then asked my friends over and over who wanted it.  I finally got Dena to agree to take it!  Yeah!

Dena then took it to the Harmony Ridge retreat and completed it.  So nice!

Jinny Beyer Basket Block of the Month

June 2015

I discovered Craftsy.  When I mentioned to a few people they all seem to be aware of it and I'm the one out of the loop.  I fell in love with this Jinny Beyer block of the month kit that was on sale.  The colors just awed me.

Here is the first block.

2019 Quilt Club was doing baskets.  I decided I would work on this UFO instead in hopes to get it done.  Notice that the last block does not have seam allowance on edge of basket.  Fustrated! Became a UFO again!

I placed this project on my 2020 UFO list to complete two more blocks and one of those blocks needs to be an applique block.  I started working on these prior to the UFO being picked. Once I got momentum I kept making the blocks and completed all blocks while at Harmony Ridge retreat during the first week in June.

Completed the quilt top in June.  I did not add the "gold" fabric in the sashing as the pattern indicated as it was too much.  Plus I made a mistake in cutting the stripe fabric.  I like my version better.

Paradox Point

August 2017 - March 2020

I have so many tonal scraps I've decided to keep up my paper piecing skills by doing Paradox Pont by Sassafras Lane with the tonal scraps and medium gray. I used a dark gray background and a different layout then in the pattern. Finished quilt top in March of 2020.

Quilt tops finish in 2019

I started this quilt while in Maui in December and finished Jan 2019. Sold at June quilt show.

This was one of mom's quilts.  She had the blocks done and I assembled the quilt top in January.  Sold quilt top at the June quilt show.

These farm fabrics were left over from a previous quilt mom made.  I started making these blocks while in Maui in Dec and completed the top in Feb 2019.

These were free fabrics that were up for grabs so I made this Easy Peace quilt and once quilted will donate to Community Quilts. Completed while at Walker Ranch retreat in March.

I finally finished the borders on this quilt top called Stick and Stones.  It was a kit I got at Paducah a few years ago. Finished top in March.  I sold the quilt top to Betsy at the August fabric sale.

This my entry for the Mostly Modern 2019 Triad Color challenge.  I selected green, orange and purple.  I like the 3 dimensional look with the stars and wanted to try the pattern. Finished the quilt top in April.  Need to quilt for challenge deadline in Oct.

I got this panel at Rusty Barn show in Sacramento earlier this year.  I used a pattern out of the Easy Peasy book.  Finished at Harmony Ridge retreat in May 2019.  Quilted and sold Mary Mc.

I wanted to try the Hunter's Star Deb Tucker ruler that I had purchases a few years ago. I made this while at the Harmony Ridge retreat (May 2019).  I used a sweet treat from pin cushion from my stash.  I sold the quilt top at the June quilt show.

I started this quilt top earlier this year and completed at the Harmony Ridge retreat (May 2019).  It is fabrics and pattern that mom purchased.

The Mini-Mavens challenge for 2019 is Embellishment.  I had done the fish years ago when learning thread painting.  I had the yarns saved over the years for underwater scene.  The shells were purchased at Legacy and I wanted to try some beads so those are the air bubbles.

This bird fabric was free.  I wanted to try this pattern. July 2019.

Several of us made ourselves a challenge of making Elizabeth Hartman's Awesome Ocean.  I had bought the border fabric a year ago in Grass Valley and really wanted to use it on this project so selected purple and olive as the color ways of the animals.  I used a variegated (aqua to blue) background.  That required more planning on cutting out the background for each animal.  It was a bit difficult.  I also modified the seaweed from the original pattern. Finished quilt top in July 2019.

Mom and I took this Elizabeth Hartman class at Sister in 2017. I had not read the pattern/instruction well and did not bring background fabric.  We did have this black fabric in the car so it became the background.  Even Elizabeth like the night look of this quilt.  Mom and I got one flamingo done in class.  I completed the second and quilt top in early August of 2019.  Sold the quilt top at the August fabric sale.

I bought this Maui based fabric while in Maui last December and made this Puzzle Box blocks with Hawaii appliqued in the center in September.  I want to give this to a good friend as a Healing Quilt by this December.  Got to get it quilted quickly.

I wanted to make a quick quilt and this pattern seemed perfect to use this butterfly panel.  I started this while at the Hen House retreat in September.

I've wanted to try this pattern and our guild had a instructor teach it using the Sew Kind of Wonderful ruler and pattern.  I borrowed the ruler as I wasn't sure I was going to like it.  The I used some of my many 5 inch square scraps.  I was not happy with the results. Finished top in October.

I bought this Lattic Pattern while on our Oregon road trip in June.  I also bought the multi color background fabric on that trip as it is a companion to the dog panel I already had.  I worked on this while at the Hen House retreat and completed the quilt top in October.  Sold the top in October.

This is Kathryn Kerr's 365 Block Challenge.  I started this on Jan 1, 2019 in efforts to keep me quilting even while my personal life was in major upheaval. I used scraps.  Most blocks are 3 1/2 or 6 1/2 inches.  I have donated the quilt top to my guild in November.

The center was a pattern called Split Charm and I used some fabric I had bought in Grass Valley in May of this year.  The border is based on the Mini Wonderful Curve ruler and the book.  Finished quilt top in Nov.

I started this quilt top in October.  The pattern is called Cartwheel from the book Stripology / Mixology. I finished the quilt top in Dec.

This was Quilt Club's 2017 block of the months.  Blocks with US state names in the title of the block.  I made from scraps.  I was stuck for several months on what to do for borders. I finally just went with flanges and different width to make the top into a rectangle instead of a square.  I finished the top in December.

I started this top last month.  I wanted to become more proficient with the Mini Wonderful Curves ruler and use the book I had purchased.  The astrological pattern seemed perfect for the Lanterns and I had a fat quarter bundle that went perfectly with the panel.  (December)

This was one of Mom's unfinished quilt tops, tha I completed. It was a block of the month called Sweet Tooth.

I bought a bundle of 7 panels of this horse at the Quilt Expo in Sacramento in January as there was sample of a Stack-n-whack with the panel in a vendor booth.  I should have taken a picture as when I got to laying it out I could remember how the panel was incorporated in with the hexagons.  The picture is of the quilt pinned and ready to quilt.

Quilts quilted in 2019

#1 Mom's train quilt.  Made a railroad track motif for small square sashings. Outlined the trains on gray part of panels.  Smoke motif in border. Sold at June 2019 quilt show.

#2 Mom's Dino and Footprint log cabin (Jordan Fabrics kit, orange minkee backing). Quilted feather in white foot print fabric and pencil serpentine in colors. Orange inner border was quilted with paperclip motif. Sue W bought April 2020.

#3 Mom's Firetrucks and dalmatians.  Got a firetruck quilting motif (maybe a Lori Kennedy post) and quilted it in the large squares and on the borders.  Quilted flames in the stripped blocks. Sold at June 2019 quilt show.

#4 Mom made this quilt top and I started quilting it with a log cabin scene on golden thread paper back in the 90's.  I got about 1/2 done but it was so difficult on a domestic machine. I made this the MQSC VP UFO challenge to complete quilting.  It was easier to complete now that my quilting skills are better and on the sit down long arm Juki.

#5 Mom had started this second "Fire" quilt and I completed it last year.  I wanted to enter in this year's quilt show special exhibit on the 2017 Fires.  I outlined the houses and flames in the lower half and smoke in the upper half.

#6 Mom completed this quilt top a couple of years ago.  I quilted grass in the lower left area, rocks and water in those blocks.  I outlined the clouds and astrological star signs in the night sky blocks.  The outer border is 1/2 matrix and 1/2 echo.  Sold at June 2019 quilt show.

a

#7 Dino Community Quilt.  Tried Chevron stencil (from friend) and pounce pad.  I wanted to do an interlocking pattern but stencil did not hold up.  So went to using "Line Tamer" ruler registration from the first row of chevrons and did a large zigzag.  Donated to MQSC community quilts 2019.

#8 Mom's Space Aliens.  I quilted feathers in the yellow triangle and straight lines to form a basket in the blue triangles.  In the space alien blocks I quilted straight lines in yellow thread to form rays. (Gave to Holly's friend that helps first time mothers, June 2020).

#9 Mostly Modern Triad Color Challenge.  I used the Line Tamer quilt ruler to spiral in on each face of the cubes.  The shadows are zigzags and the background are straight lines to simulate light source.

#10 Bears Flying Machines.  This was a quilt top mom had almost completed and I finished late last year.  Mary Mc wanted two baby gifts and selected this quilt top. This was the first one.

#11 Hedgehog, skunk panel (orange & purple).  I wanted the panel to stand out so I quilted a circle around each animal.  Then between the rings I quilted various fan motifs. This was the second quilt Mary Mc requested.

#12 I made this quilt top a year or so ago.  The fat quarter packed was called "Mad Men".  The book/pattern is Happy Hour (which seem appropriate).  I got the backing at M&L Fabric, martinis on black in January. I quilted with wonky spiral square.

#13 I had purchased a rope quilting ruler a couple of years ago and I wanted to try it out (FINALLY). So I found this quilt mom made that would be perfect for the rope motif to be in the sashing.  I started with a long arm rope ruler and got very frustrated with it on my sit down Juki.  While at PIQF I purchased another rope ruler that holds the ruler foot.  The rope is more dense in motif but I like the use much better!!(Gave to Holly for her friend that helps first time mothers, June 2020).

#14 A few friends and I challenged ourselves to make Elizabeth Hartman's Awesome Ocean to have a group display at the 2020 quilt show.  I had border fabric that I wanted to use and drove my color decisions.  I stitch just inside each animal to help it pop (and not stitch in the ditch).  Calm sea was the motif I used between the animals.  I tried a kelp like motif for the border.

#15 BQ with Typewriter fabric. This was a quilt top mom made a few years ago.  I saw Lori Kennedy's Steampunk quilting motif and thought this pattern to try it out on.  I really like this quilting motif.

#16 I made this quilt top several years ago.  I quilted feathers in the focal fabric space and outlined the red chevrons.  The border is quilted with a feather.

#17 Maui Puzzle Box.  I bought the Maui fabric in Maui last December and made this as a healing quilt for a good friend.  I quilted by outlining the boxes and then echoing around the appliqued Hawaii islands all the way to the edges.  The background fabric and the quilting really made it look like a view of the islands from a plane.  The backing was a piece of the Maui fabric, the rest of the background and then a green/brown fabric. This was a gift for friend Bambi 2019.

#18 I wanted to practice this quilting motif and it is fairly quick and has a lot of movement.  So I pulled out this quilt top I made probably back in the 90's and backed it with an aqua minkee. (Sue W bought, April 2020)
