I purchased this as a kit ($63) earlier this year from Craftys as it was on sale and I like bright colors. When I got the kit I discovered it was a paper piece pattern. Although not a very complex paper piece. I was a bit discouraged as I didn't want to make as a paper piece so it went on the shelf until I had a chance to work out how I wanted to make it. It is made from two jelly rolls of Gradations from Benartex.
On Saturday Mary 28 Mom and I took a Basic Skills class from the guild on paper piecing. Mom had be very opposed to paper piecing due to a few attempts many years ago. The class was taught by Lline W and was great. The project was an online paper piece mystery quilt and Lline had the class progress from simple to harder blocks. Mom got tired before the class go to the last blocks so we left but she got over her "fear" of paper piecing. On the drive home I remember this project and thought it would be great for mom and I to do together and reinforce some of the basic steps about paper piecing (does not cover the measure and calculating how big to make each fabric piece).
In two weeks I plan to have us start a slightly more complex paper piece project, probably from the book Bella Bella. Then in a week or so after that have Mom take on one of the clothes paper piece block of the months which requires all of the paper piece skills. What Was I Thinking Paper Pieced Clothes
June 4th Mom started another paper piece project, Ciao Bella, from the book Bella Bella.
June 18, Mom and I finished the blocks for Reflections and started sewing rows together. Mom then pulled the paper off. I added 1/2 blocks of the spares to offset the blocks so the narrow center stripe does not align row after row. Finished rows and put a black narrow border then the variegated.
June 22 Finished quilt top
