I signed up to take this class because I want to learn her technique on machine applique as this the year of applique for me. It is a Judy Niemeyer pattern. Mom had bought a kit at PIQF last year that was a Judy pattern and it is horrible. This one is just as bad. It is not easy to follow and no where is there a description of what fabric is what. The fabric purchase is like "unit A, accent fabric..1/8 yd" but nowhere does is have a diagram of where that is in the pattern. You have to find what a unit A is...then investigate where that is in the quilt. She uses weird identifies that are confusing like unit PDA and unit PDS what the F@#$. I think it is her scheme to make "certified Judy Niemeyer instructors" just to learn how to read her patterns.
Kathi was a great instructor and so patient! She must have gotten the same question over and over and she never lost her cool.
I just pick Batiks from my stash and thankfully Kathi had a pre-class to cut out the pieces and templates. So once class happened we were able to actually sew. The method of templates to cut out the to be paper pieced section is interesting and I did like that. The stacking of the pieces as a bit much but I got that concept. Kathi did a quick demo of the Stick-N-Peel applique method and talked how she machine quilts the pieces down. I purchased one package of the Stick-N-Peel.
Completed the top, including the applique April 24th. I will attempt to sell it as an un-quilted top at the boutique in June.
