Colorful animals FQ Mystery Quilt pattern

April 24 - May 14, 2016

I wanted to start something new.  I had taken this to Nashville to start but didn't.  The panel and border fabric was purchased recently but not sure where.  The color stripe fabrics were a bundle of FQs I have had a long long time.  I like this Mystery Quilt pattern so adding the panels was an easy alteration to make them the right size to work with the other blocks.

Using a color for each of the blocks  made it more difficult for me to mix the blocks up compared to when the blocks are made from companion fabrics (see Pirate's Treasure; https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=7117248830530723058) which is the same pattern.  I'm sure it just my personality trait but hard for me to mix up the colors and have it still appeal to me.

I didn't have enough of the stripe border fabric to extend into the corners so had to have corner stones.  I wanted to bring all 6 colors into the corner stone and a log cabin seemed the best way to do that and still be similar to the other blocks. I didn't have enough of the color fabric used in the quilt but did have 6 FQ of the same family of fabrics as the colors.

I should have squared up the 1/2 square red triangles as they seemed a bit oversized when I put on the border but not by much.  All in all I am pleased with the quilt top and like how the panels worked out.

Size: 69 x73
Needs to be quilted
