Paducah/Nashville 2016

April 16-23

Paige got a timeshare for us in Nashville that happened to overlap with the Paducah show.  Mom finished tax season on Friday and we flew to Nashville on Saturday.  Paige had been in Nashville a few days prior for work so we met her at the timeshare.  Very nice place, two bedroom.  I did bring our small Brother sewing machine and couple of projects to keep mom and I busy.  Unfortunately I could not pack the machine with the hard cover case and the machine got broken in transit.  I was able to make it work.

We did all of the typical tourist stuff, Graceland (interesting but not sure it was worth the 7 hours of driving to Memphis) and downtown Memphis.  Chattanooga to see the Aquarium, so worth it! But did not realize it was in Eastern time zone vs Nashville in Central so we lost an hour which screwed us hoping to get on the river boat trip.  Mom and I went to two quilt stores in Franklin on the day Paige had to work.  The Stitching Garden was amazing.  Best way to describe it was a hoarder with a store.  There was so much stuff but NOTHING was on sale. Incredible selection.  Prices were the going rate.   Here are pics:

Mom and I also did the two hour drive (each way) to Paducah to see the show.  We got there at 9:30 and were so lucky to get a parking space next to the Pavilion (the second venue for the show).  We walked the Pavilion and then took a shuttle bus to the main convention area.  Walked those 3 areas.  I was only looking for things that were "new" compared to all the other shows we go to.  Found one really interesting booth called Frond Design Studios (www. fronddesignstudios.com) that had very original and new things.  We bought three of their kits.  All of their patterns are original and although the fabrics were from standard companies the are not the most common fabrics and with their unique patterns they are stunning.  Spent 2.5 hours and then drove back.  Glad we went since we were close by, but not interested in doing that venue again.  Did buy a few other things like a borders book I had not seen before from Loc-Block booth.  Here are two quilts that caught my attention in vendor booths.

Did a backstage Grand Old Opry tour and went to the Gaylord twice.  Once to walk around the other for dinner. Did go downtown Nashville to check out the local music and bar scene.  Just happened to be the same night as their hockey team's playoff so the place was really hopping for Wednesday night. Great trip!
