Ribbons

Sept 2014 - Dec 2014

Mom made this quilt top several years ago.  It was a pattern from a magazine but I can't find the notes on it at the moment.  I decided to use Sally Terry's Hooked on Feathers quilting motif.  I had taken a class from her at the Salt Lake HMQS Home Machine Quilt Show in 2010.  I'd liked the appearance and the No Backtracking but just had not suck up the courage to do a quilt with it.  I put this on the frame in Sept and was making great progress.  Really liked the outcome and the challenge of going in and out of each ribbon.  However it is such a large quilt that I got bored with it after about a month and couldn't get myself to continue for weeks on end.  I only used two threads, white in the white areas and a Superior Rainbow in the ribbons so it wasn't the thread changes that bugged me.  Then winter came along and it gets cold where the frame is set up.  Eventually I just forced myself to spend 30 minutes a day to get it done.  I really do like how the quilting came out and will try more of the elaborate versions of Hooked on Feathers. Size 80" x 92"
